“Nonsense that is not just chaos, that is not just blathering balderdash, but that has in it rhythm, fascinating complexity, a kind of artistry. It is in this kind of meaninglessness that we come to the profoundest meaning.” – Alan Watts
Nonsense: Language, conduct, or an idea that is absurd or contrary to good sense.
Sense: A feeling that something is the case.
The perceived fool who pursues his folly will become wise. Thus, the dreamer. In order to arrive at meaning, one must surrender to meaninglessness. In order to arrive at sense, one must surrender to nonsense. True folly is part of the process of success. Nonsense is the pursuit of sense.
All that one experiences in life transitioned, at some point, from nonsense. The more clearly you experience something as nonsense, the more clearly you are experiencing your own self-imposed limits. Nonsense is that which does not fit the patterns that one has superimposed and applied to reality. There is no such thing as nonsense. It’s a judgment, an opinion, a belief (often misguided).
The separating line between the person who accomplishes his feat and the person who does not, is in what each accepts as nonsense. The person who accepts the nonsense, has confined themselves, while the person who understands that nonsense is, well, nonsense, has transformed the possibility into a probability.
To a child, nothing is nonsensical. The experiences of the child are free from pre-conceived notions, thus restrictions. The childlike mindset can see the world as it is. The adult sees the world through the lens of restriction, influence. To be childlike is to be pure of intent, receptive, unbiased, uninfluenced, thus unrestrained. All things are possible to the childlike philosophy. As one questions what is genuinely known (true), unconstructive thought patterns fade away, while new beliefs, ideas, and possibilities, present themselves. For what seemed impossible and unattainable, becomes plausible, even probable. As the child inside is allowed to be released, that which was once nonsense may be accessed by ones senses, and a new reality is revealed.
